I had said that I wasn’t going to say anything about this, for a myriad of reasons. Fortunately, The Black Snob pretty much said it all, saving me typing time. I can’t imagine being opposed to gay marriage when it’s only been in my lifetime that my own marriage became legal. (And a bill to change the Alabama constitution to remove anti-miscegenist language only passed by a 60-40 margin a few years ago. Despite the fact that the SCOTUS struck that fucknuttery down years ago.)
And please, don’t step to me with that ‘civil union’ nonsense. If someone had come to me with that, I would told them to bite me. It’s nonsense, and no I’m not interested in a religious debate. Why? Because when the chips are down, despite W’s attempts to the contrary, THIS IS NOT A GODDAMNED THEOCRACY. And I will die and burn in hell eternally before I’ll let ANYONE turn it into one. The only document this country is governed by is the U.S. Constitution, praise be to God, and the Founding Fathers were more than aware of the dangers of not separating church and state.
This law violates the Equal Protection Clause of the Constitution, period. It simply does. Contrary to popular belief this country is not ruled by majority rule. Minority rights are protected, because as Madison said, “Majority Rule is tyranny.” It can’t be any simpler than that. It cannot be a Biblical argument because this country is not governed by the Bible, Koran, Talmud or any other religious document. So people, grow the hell up and stop trying to coerce people to live their lives the way you, and your religion, see fit. This is still America damnit, let’s try, I mean really try, to remember that.
