Pre-Order! Pre-Order! Pre-Order!

GeeWiz8x12

So, here’s the thing, I hadn’t actually planned to make Gee Whiz, it’s Christmas available for pre-order. Mainly because I’m too neurotic to adhere to the vendor guidelines. I’m never sure when a book will be finished. But this week my schedule will be absolutely insane, so I wanted to upload it in advance and on some sites pre-order is the only way to do that. I also managed to mess up the date big time on Amazon. I know! I know!

Right now the book is available for pre-order at ARe, Amazon and the Kobo bookstores. Try as I might I can’t get it to work for Barnes & Noble and iTunes. Presumably I’d have to sacrifice at least one of my kids, and as much as I love y’all, I love them more.)  Fortunately, ARe has  .epub format so if you want to pre-order you can order there. You’ll note, I left out Smashwords. Unless something major happens there with their antiquated system, I won’t be uploading anymore books there. I just can’t deal with it anymore. As near as I can tell I have only one reader who is a Smashwords loyalist (please correct me if I’m wrong, and for that the juice is simply not worth the squeeze.)

ETA, it’s now up at iTunes

Again, for reasons beyond my control, the book will be available everywhere on 12/9/2015 EXCEPT Amazon, who won’t release it until 12/10. I’m pretty sure I screwed this one up, but I can’t fix it, and for that I sincerely apologize. Again, ARe, has the .mobi format as well, so if you don’t want to wait a day you can always buy it there.

I have it on good authority that pre-orders do wonder for a book’s ratings at Amazon, so if you’re so inclined, please do pre-order. We’re very excited about this series and can’t wait to see what y’all think  of it. Thank you so very much for your patience with me as I work through this learning curve.

The Superstar Cover

SuperStar16x24

Whit and I were discussing some upcoming projects I’m working on, including a Christmas serial with Lisa. (I just love saying Christmas serial. It sounds like “cereal” you only get at Christmas time. I imagine it looking like Rice Krispies with little red marshmallow stars and santas.) Anyway, we started brainstorming the covers for the serial (There will be five BTW. Starting around Thanksgiving. Watch this space for updates!) which is what we do, usually months out, and laughing about what a PITA the Superstar cover was. Superstar, the book, is very near and dear to me. As I’ve said many times before, I was a black rocker chick and it was crucial to me that there be an UNAMBIGUOUSLY BLACK WOMAN on the cover of this book. As a young woman, sure I wanted to sleep with Robert Plant (and really, who didn’t?), but I wanted to BE Jimmy Page. So this was personal.

Finding a stock picture of a black woman with braids, playing a guitar and seriously rocking out was damned near impossible. Most of the pictures of women with guitars are all sex kittenish (WTF is UP with that? It’s like those half naked women with guns. Just effing annoying.) An axewoman should look badass, not fucktoy. It took me over a year of endlessly scanning stock sites. When I found this one, I bought it on the spot. Then, after all that, Whit didn’t like it. He went through all the technical issues he had with the photo while my eyes glazed over which is what happens when he starts talking about masks and shadows. Usually, when he doesn’t like a photo he won’t work with it. Keeping in mind he is working for free, most of the time I don’t complain, but in this case, I did. And, as usual, he produced what I think of as one our best covers. And yes, I know I ALWAYS say that, but this time I’m serious. One of these days when I finally get my office the way I want it, this one is going up on the wall. I love it that much.

I’ve said continually that we need more blogs that review and discuss diverse romance. Well lots of them have come under the radar while I haven’t been paying attention. Blog media is an important tool for discovering and promoting books. Read these blogs and be sure to comment. Blog hits increases their visibility in the Google algorithm and gives them an opportunity to earn advertising revenue. It also gives us authors another venue for promotion. So go, and go often AND comment. Thank you. I just discovered Musings of a Romance Junkie and she has a list up on her blog of diverse bloggers. Go check them out. And if you know more bloggers, please list them here. I’m starting a page at the top of this blog of diverse bloggers and will add to them as we go. Thank you so much.

Y’all Better Get You Some

AOW_Final-proof

Lisa and I have a Facebook group. I know, I know. Some of you are saying, What for? While others are asking, What took you heffas so long? And of course, What’s in it for me? I’ll answer all three questions. The purpose of the group is to keep our fans in the know about upcoming books, and to reward you for your loyalty over the years. And, of course, to sell books. It took us a long time to do this because basically we are the world’s slowest writers and we didn’t want anything to take away from that.

What’s the benefit? The main benefit is that group members will have an opportunity to buy our books at least one week before anyone else. This will be time sensitive, so if you’re not a member you’ll probably miss out. Lisa and I also plan to have other premiums for members like t-shirts and possibly some type of meet and greet in the future. Keep in mind that we’re both introverted as hell so the meet and greet might not happen if we don’t get a lot of people in our group. So tell your family and friends to come on in. We’ll also post snippets from upcoming books, and answer any questions you might have.

Me and My Pussycats

I’ve had a lot of inquiries about the original Pussycat Death Squad book. (And I really appreciate it, because these books really are my heart.) It came down in late summer because I got the rights back from the publisher. You might have noticed, I got the rights back to six books in the past few months and I’ve been working my poor husband like crazy to get new covers done. He works full-time and this is his busy time at work. And, much as he would deny it, the man is an artist. And yeah, (whispering) he has an artistic temperament and since he’s working for free…yeah, I have to take my covers when he gets around to them. He’s working on the new cover and he should have it finished by the end of the week and it’s a beauty! I know I say that every time, but the man just amazes me.

The next Pussycat book is Pussycat in Peril. It’s the third book in the series and is about Astaria, who, if you will recall was the second in command to Lelia in Pussycat Death Squad. Astaria has found herself trapped back in her home country in the middle of an internecine war and must be rescued by her husband. (Her husband? Where the hell did she get one of those? And more importantly, why?) It’s a marriage of convenience story, and those have always been one of my fave romance tropes. It was also strongly influenced by Roberta Gellis’s The Kent Heiress. To the point of, dare I say it? Being FAN FICTION!!! Quelle horreur! Gellis’s story takes place during the French Revolution and I always wanted to do a contemporary story of that nature, but couldn’t really come up with a suitable setting. Then the Arab Spring happened, and voila my imagination was off to the races. (No, I  don’t know why I’m speaking French this morning, but the setting of this story was a former French colony.) I’m loving the heck out of this story, especially since the Arab revolution and the aftermath is still very much in the news.

Astaria, the heroine is of East African lineage, and like all the Pussycats is as lethal as she is gorgeous. As a sniper in the counter-revolutionary forces she has no trouble living up to the “Hot Shot” title Kaeden has given her.  Kaeden Nassir, the hero is just awesome. An Egyptian American Marine from Tennessee he is everything a hero should be; madly in love with the heroine, and prepared to die to protect her. Suffice it to say, it would behoove you to be careful any time he has his precious “Arkansas Toothpick” in his hand. As for the photos at the top of the page, Astaria’s father was an archaeologist excavating Roman ruins in their home country. The pictures are of Roman ruins in Libya and, as I’ve mentioned before, Laritrea is loosely based on that country and activities occurring there. I’m hoping to have it ready in time for a Christmas release.

As always, thank y’all so much for your support. I love writing these stories and it’s still amazing to me that y’all enjoy them as much as I do .

I know I’ve been promising this forever, but I swear it’s not my fault. These temperamental artists I swear. Y’all have no idea difficult they can be!!! Especially when they’re your husband and work for free!!! LOL Anyway, I love this cover so much. Once you read the book you’ll see how well it captures the spirit of Sioux Dupree. The book should be out no later than the end of the week. I hope to finish my edits today, but I don’t want to promise and then not deliver AGAIN! So, I’ll just share the fabulous cover. Thank y’all so much for your patience. I can so feel your love for my work and it sustains me. Sometimes when I want to give up and just trash all these books on my hard drive, I think of your emails, tweets, etc… and I’m inspired to continue. If you can keep on keeping on, then so can I. Again, thank you so much.

Sorry for the Delay, but Superstar Will Be Here Soon

Good morning to all my readers. I owe all of you an apology for the long-delayed release of Superstar. I returned to working full-time this spring and it has taken a great deal of effort to coordinate my new life. I think I’ve hit my groove now, but will probably limit my writing to the weekends only, at least for now. Superstar will be released this month. I also plan to release Love Me Some Him, which is Deringer’s story and Lisa and I have an amazing Christmas surprise as well. So stay tuned.  Love you so much, and appreciate you, too.
