Ovens

One of the things I found attractive about this house when we were shopping was the fact that it had a double oven. This house is old and we’ll eventually have to replace all the appliances, but I’ve always wanted a double oven. I like the idea of being able to cook two batches of cookies at once.

Imagine my dismay to discover that neither oven is large enough to accommodate my cookie sheets! Keep in mind I’m not talking about my huge industrial size sheets, but basic insulated sheets you can get anywhere. I have one jelly roll pan that will fit in the darned thing. I’ve been meaning to buy another, but haven’t gotten around to it. I’d planned to bake a double batch of oatmeal raisin cookies for Thanksgiving. That means I’ll either have to go out today and get another pan, or bake eight dozen cookies one pan at a time.

I’m a simple woman, so I’m not looking for a big Viking, six burner stove. I loved my Whirlpool oven I had in my old house. Though I won’t buy another one of those PITA glass cooktops. I loved the fact that you don’t have burners to clean, but Whit was so anal about keeping that thing clean that I don’t ever want to deal with that little slice of hell again. (BTW, a little baking soda on a damp sponge works much better, and more cheaply than the cleaner made for the cooktops.)

I’m not a chef and don’t pretend to be one. But my next oven is going to be freaking huge. This is absolutely the most ridiculous thing I’ve ever encountered. For the life of me I can’t imagine why anyone would want a DOUBLE OVEN that’s too small for a standard cookie sheet.
